It gets better
Around every project, the thought comes, “This is probably the best moment yet.”
At first, it was the teacher seminars where, with my Ukrainian food friend/teacher, we created a word document and internet project.
Then, it was MASCOT 2010, which was an absolute camp experience and spiraled the following two things (among many more):
- Sound Design Seminar, which was entirely great, and challenged a new reality in search of incorporating technology and creativity in curriculum
- Working with my Ukrainian food friend/teacher to create a series of seminars in teaching 8th-10th formers the joys of projects and taking initiative, which then spiraled into the next two things:
- EuroClub – learning about creativity and ultimately being led into making bicycles out of cardboard
- Gymnasium Summer Camp – which began with the idea of choice and developing interesting skills.
So, enter now, with the current mosaic project. It’s incredibly challenging and it feels so great to have my mind on ‘mosaicing’ again. There’s the art teacher, the property manager, this super amazing 13-year-old I’ve enlisted as my helper (basically, he’s getting trained in both project management and in mosaic skills), and there’s a ton of 5th formers who are really excited and interested in the mosaic who help. It’s in this moment, I can’t help but think ‘this, by far is the coolest thing that’s happened.’
Although I did ‘hit my wall against the head today’, it feels really great and I’m excited. It’s a Friday worknight with apple juice, and doing the work to step into the next ‘this is probably the best moment yet’: MASCOT 2011, where 100 campers and 30 staff will endeavor into leadership, creativity and absolute possibility.
